Trombone optimizer by KGUmusic (large shank)

$117.00 $150.00
  • Compatible only with the trombone mouthpiece with large shank.
  • Designed to break the habit of excessive mouthpiece pressure against the lips when playing high notes. Use it for 10 to 30 minutes during your practice to gain better control over your mouthpiece.
  • Suitable for trombonists of all skill levels, from beginners to experienced musicians.
  • Easy assembly and disassembly – unlike most models, our trombone optimizer is equipped with magnets, so its functioning is based on repulsion.
  • Many setup options. Unlike devices with springs, which provide only 5-6 positions, our trombone optimizer’s activation rate can be set with each millimeter. Turn it clockwise or counterclockwise to regulate the level of pressing, making it stronger or smaller.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Regardless of experience, almost every brass musician applies excessive mouthpiece pressure on the lips from time to time. The problem is rooted in the playing technique, as the sound of a brass instrument is formed by a vibrating column of air, created by buzzing the musicians’ lips while blowing air through the mouthpiece. Producing notes of various register demands a different amount of strength. The higher and louder the notes are, the greater pressure is required. If the trombonists apply too much pressure, it results in the appearance of red mouthpiece marks on the lips after prolonged practices or concerts that can lead to more serious issues, such as lip injuries, bloody wounds, and necrosis. To solve this problem, we have crafted the KGUmusic trombone optimizer, ready to ease the life of beginners and experienced trombonists.

How does it work?

The device is designed to interrupt the buzz as soon as trombonists press the mouthpiece against the lips too hard. When holding in a static position with no pressure applied on the lips, the optimizer lets the air column come through the trombone. However, when trombonists apply excessive pressure, the system activates and prevents the air from coming through the instrument, and musicians immediately realize that they are using too much pressure.

The advanced construction

The construction of our trombone optimizer features magnets: one is set up in the upper part, the other in the lower part. Unlike springs, magnets are more efficient and practical, as they don't rot with time and are not affected by saliva and condensation. The magnets provide musicians with an easy set up, as they can change the activation rate of the device by turning it clockwise or counterclockwise to make the power of pressing stronger or smaller.

The optimizer is set up between the tube and the mouthpiece. As it changes the length of the lead pipe and affects the tuning, it’s suitable only for short-time practice, not for playing with a backing track or practicing all day long.

The advantages of using optimizer

Using the KGUmusic trombone optimizer helps you avoid:

  • lip injuries, accompanying trombonists during all their career;
  • the partial necrosis of the lip muscles because of the lack of oxygen;
  • bloody wounds and calluses on the lips.

Playing music should be enjoyable without any damage and discomfort, and the trombone optimizer helps improve your technique to make it so.
